Using torrents with uTorrent

Ever wanted to know how to use torrents? Many websites are using torrents as an option for downloading files and can sometimes be quicker than a direct download. There are many programs out there that you can download and manage you torrent files. For example in this video we are using uTorrent, but there are other like Transmission and BitTorrent. This video is a pretty simple way to find the torrents you want and easy way to get them to your computer.

Droid Incredible Verizon update to Froyo 2.2

This week Verizon updated the Droid Incredible to Froyo 2.2, which comes with Flash 10.1 pre-installed (I’m Jealous), 720p video recording, and mobile hotspot support. These all should perform amazingly well with Incredible and you should expect to see a major performance upgrade. Although many owners may not see the update for a few weeks, Verizon tends to roll updates out in blocks and you may not see it for a week or so depending on week block your in. If you comfortable with updating manually you can get all though Droids forum for the update.zip file and update it manually. :)

Fennec for Android phones

Recently there was an update for a web browser for Android phone called Fennec. Fennec is a Firefox web browser for Android phones. We had a chance to download this browser and see what it can do. Although the tests did not perform as well as some popular browsers today, like Dolphin, or the stock browser. Fennec is in alpha version and is an update from pre-alpha state, so a beta may be in the near future. All in all the Fennec browser would not be used to an everyday browser, its choppy when scrolling around. There isn’t any pinch to zoom or any cool features. Its pretty much a basic low end browser.

There will be more to come in the next few month and we will keep you posted.

Free calls to US and Canada from Your Gmail Account!

Thats what I said call from you Gmail account to any phone for FREE! You heard me right for FREE. Anyway today Google introduced to some Gmail accounts that you can call anyone from your contact list to any phone in the United States and Canada for free. So now we have Google Chat, Video, and Calling all in one little package, isn’t that nifty. In addition to making calls from you Gmail account you can also receive calls. When an incoming call arrives your Google voice phone rings the same time as a call window pops up. You then can accept the call and begin chatting away. This all based on Gizmo5 based backbone of VOIP. This technology was bought by Google awhile back ago for Google Voice technology and now is being used for some nifty little phone calls. Wonder if this will lead to free calling in the United States or perhaps a free wireless Google carrier. Now I want to be a beta tester for that. Anyway check the short video out below on the history of calling technology.

Last.fm Free Internet Radio for Android

Has anyone noticed lately that Pandora radio app on Android has, well, kind sucked!! I mean I thought it was me than a friend of mine mentioned that he was expericing that same problem. I was like well then it isn’t me and I need to find something else to satisfy my music needs on long drives, hehe. He recommended Last.fm, I have heard of this before but was unable to get it to work properly. Well after a few minutes of playing about with this brand new app I was able to find some really nice radio stations that sound really good, far better than Pandora. Last.fm also customizes you stations to the music you like to listen to, you can also love certain music so that you can hear more of that than something you don’t want to hear.

Not to mention about their website and music program for your computer. The program imports you library from iTunes or Windows Media Player and will customize you list online and bring it to you phone and you will have a totally customize playlist of your own on the go. You can also play you stations from their website just like the program and app. You can also customize you playlists and your profiles, upload a profile picture and tons more. This is far better the Pandora or anything else that is out there.

I have provided and link to Last.fm on the market so you can try it for yourself.

Root your Android without custom rom

Have you wanted to root York Droid or other android powered phone, but still get those OTA updates from your carrier? I know I have and I have been looking all over the internet to find an app or rom that would do just that. You would think with all that custom stuff out there that someone would come up with that idea. Here recently I was faced with a problem where I liked my Verizon OTA Froyo 2.2 update but I liked the rooted ups I once had. So I found this app that claims that it will root your android phone without ever having to flash your current rom, meaning you can keep your Verizon rom and still have root apps you love.

The app is called Universal Androot and you can download it below.

Its pretty self-explanatory, you have a few options of androids to choose from just in case your running a older system. Then there are root and unroot buttons, just press the root button and it will do its thing and then that’s it, you just rooted a verizon rom android.  Now you have access to all those fun rooted phones things we all have.

Good luck, I’m sure this is a much safer way than risking your phone to a bad rom.

For loops and how you can use them

Okay I was just recently presented with a problem where I had to input and bunch of information several times. We could make the program ask for the same information over and over and over but that would make the program bigger and bigger and you are limited to the amount of times you could repeat this. To solve this solution we use a FOR loop for set amount or user defined amount. This is very useful and makes the program smaller because you are using less code.

EmployeeClass emp[i]; //defines array for EmployeeClass

for(i = 0; i < 3; i++){ //starts the loop
cout << "Enter the employee name = ";
cin >> emp[i].EmployeeName;
cout << "Enter the hours worked = ";
cin >> emp[i].hours;
cout << "Enter his or her hourly wage = ";
cin >> emp[i].wage;
cout << endl;
}

This will ask the user three times to input the information before it proceeds to the next lines of code. See how easy this was, I hope you find a way to use this in a program. Loops are a nice way to implement something with repetitive information.
